No, I ended up going to Yale Law School and, you know, having a pretty successful career and doing the things that I did.

But, you know, like, I just never, you know... Like, I felt like, well, I'm not good enough.

You know, I don't want to show people, you know, you know, my stupid, you know, uh, you know... I mean... I don't know whether it was my poetry or my paintings or my... You know, but that's the person that I wanted to be, and I didn't have the courage when I was that age to do it.

And I had to be completely, utterly broken, humiliated, and dehumanized in order for me to say to myself, fuck everybody else.

just be who the fuck you are.

You know, I mean, everybody tells me to stop using the fucking F-word so much, but fuck you.

You know what I mean?

You know, it's like, I don't know.

Like, I don't have to... I don't have to... I don't have to be anything except exactly who I am.

And I don't owe you any explanation, but I owe myself

to be radically honest with when I fuck up and what is my responsibility and when I should say sorry to somebody.

But the one thing I know about anybody that's ever come into, you know, into recovery, decided that they gotta stop using or they gotta stop drinking.

And, you know, a lot of people can drink and use responsibly.

But anybody that I know that decided not to, they didn't come in on a fucking winning streak, man.

They didn't decide to stop drinking because, you know, things were so good.

But when they put that down... and... what are they gonna... you know, what fills that hole?

And for so long in my recovery, I didn't have anything to fill that hole because I wasn't... I didn't feel whole.

I didn't feel like I was being honest with myself about who I wanted to be or, you know, anything.

The complete and utter destruction of my ego.
