And so as a party, you can't have people who are like, well, if I just duck, no one will notice me or no one will notice my state.
Maybe Donald Trump won't hurt me in some fashion.
I can tell you, I helped to build a Holocaust museum.
Authoritarians don't go away.
They get more powerful if you don't stand up to them early.
And indeed, I was very concerned right after Donald Trump got elected.
Well, maybe we can work with him.
And Donald Trump has no interest in working with Democrats.
And you've seen that.
And I knew that.
I lived through it as governor during his first term.
I've also just watched him, as I think many Americans have.
This is not someone who's looking to compromise or looking to work with Democrats in any way.
I felt it important.
partly because I knew he was going to go after our democratic institutions, that Democrats needed to stand up and push back and fight back and that the public needed to be involved peacefully protesting.
I said those things very early on.
There were people who said, oh, you're alarmist.
You know, that's over the top to say those things.
I don't think a year later anybody's saying that about what I said a year ago.
And so I've doubled down and tripled down on it because I'm right.
