He said, you know, if you want to see more entertaining football, then, you know, you should ban man-to-man marking, right?
It's just, this isn't cricket, you know?
And, yeah, there seems to be a little bit of a blockage with coaches of how to conceptualise breaking a man-to-man press.
Maybe someone like Ryan Cherky coming all the way back to the box, right, and solving it himself could be an option that more coaches would be interested in doing.
You see this kind of thing with maybe more radical or experimental coaches trying this kind of stuff, and I think it's interesting.
But, yeah, there's also...
occasions when, you know, nothing wrong to go a little bit longer sometimes.
No one has to play short.
It's fine to have variation.
And, you know, we mentioned PSG and Bayern.
They have a lot of rotations in their approach to solving these kinds of problems.
I thought Arsenal were a bit quick to go long, like just to blast the ball up the pitch.
I felt that City were a bit more creative in their solutions sometimes.
You notice that Kusinov and Gueye, he would split very wide and actually Rodri and Bernardo Silva at times would drop into the centre-back positions to have the better ballplayers on in those areas to solve the problems.
That's one way that Guardiola likes to approach it.
So, yeah, there's a few things going on there.
And, yeah, it's one of the big problems facing coaches right now is how to deal with them, how to build up against man-to-man pressure.
I'm not a huge fan of the way Arteta approaches, particularly the attacking phase of football.
I've mentioned how good Arsenal are defensively, and I mean low block, high block, pressing, whatever.
When they don't have the ball, they're really good.
