Because Microsoft's already registering everyone's hardware for them. Yeah. Yeah, it's a crying shame. It's tough out there in the real world of the internet, isn't it? I'm going back to your monitoring site. What formats does the government put stuff out? Are you like diffing HTML, or is it better than that?

Yeah, relative to PDF, it's better, right?

So do you all have the filibuster over there?
So do you all have the filibuster over there?
I always thought the filibuster was just the dumbest thing. It's like, if we can just talk long enough, we can run the clock out. It's so silly. But I ask that because then do you have any blowhards? Like, do you have a ranking of like, here's our most wordy politicians versus not?

Oh, excuse me.

Well, one thing about governments, it seems, is they... As they go on, they either incline or decline, and many of them decline. And this is a very poor way of segueing into the topic of long-term software development, which is something you've been interested in, Bert, and I'm also interested in, as we have systems that exist for decades and become quite crucial.

Software has never been more crucial in the life of everybody out there in the world than it is today. And a lot of these systems are not built to last or they weren't built to last or they thought they were building it to last, but they actually weren't. And you've done a lot of thinking and even writing and talks about long-term software development.

And I think we would all benefit from hearing your learnings and what you've been talking to other folks who've been experienced or believe about this. We all have thoughts about how you actually write for the long-term. I'm curious what you have found.

Right. That's a big one. It's easy to get nerd sniped into premature optimizations. If we just focus on the simplicity part, let's return to dependencies and maybe talk about that in detail. But yeah, I don't think very many people set out to make a complicated solution. Unless you're just malicious or willfully ignorant or something.

You're not like, I'm going to make the worst possible solution ever. We all want to make it simple and straightforward and repeatable and reusable. These are all things that engineers, software developers strive for.
