Songwriting can happen at any time.

pick up a guitar but with writing a novel everything has to stop and i have to work on that for a few months i write really fast and and but it's an intense experience of like eight hour days doing that and then of course i can't write when i'm acting i can't write when i'm directing um so that right do you have a do you have a a goal in your in your mind that is louder than all the other goals and that then informs how you allocate your time

That's probably the problem that I have is I don't really have a goal except to satisfy some kind of itch.

And that's a daily itch, not a weekly or a monthly?

No, it's a lifelong kind of a thing.

It's just, for instance, like I want to make a series out of one of the novels that I've written.

And that's really my greatest ambition at this point.

There's also a movie I'm shooting in February that I wrote, but I'm not directing.

I'm just acting.
