He is then cross-examined by the prosecution.

And so after lunch, Mr. Donaldson back into the witness stand and he was then questioned by Rosemary Walsh Casey for the prosecution.

She started again.

There was an awful lot of talk about his past and his political career and his dealings with the Ulster Unionist Party and his meeting with Eleanor and all of those things.

And then she just went really straight into asking him, was the abuse of witness be done discreetly?

And he said, no, it simply did not happen.

She then asked Mr. Donaldson if he thought at that stage he was getting away with it.

He said this didn't happen.

Miss Walsh queried.

when Eleanor Donaldson knew about the alleged offences and Mr. Donaldson said, given that this had not happened, Eleanor would not have known.

There was nothing to know.

And Miss Walsh said she wanted to, and these are her words,

get to the bottom of what your defense is.

She said, you're effectively saying that none of this ever happened.

She is telling lies.

Is that your defense?

And Mr. Donaldson replied, yes.

And in relation to the allegations made by Witness A, Mr. Donaldson said about an alleged incident when she had said she'd woke to find him shining a light at her private parts, that they had a different view of what had happened.

And in relation to other allegations by Witness A, he said that didn't happen.

Miss Walsh asked him then, was he saying that she was lying, to which he responded, yes.
