Making a sundial.

Cutting a hole in the stone, putting in a brass plate to make the sundial, and then working out how to etch the brass.

So I checked out how to do it, and apparently what you have to do is, nitric acid is the thing, so you then cover the brass with wax...

Melt the wax onto it and then right into the wax what you want Which obviously makes a hole in the wax where the numbers have got to go and the lines have got to go and then You pour nitric acid on it and that burns through Sufficiently to create the etching effect and so I did this and

But this was sort of 1960s, I guess.

Imagine if a 14-year-old, 13-year-old boy turns up in a pharmacy and says, I want a bottle of nitric acid.

I think questions would be asked.

And so I said, I wanted to get some nitric acid.

Okay.

He says, be careful how you carry it.

Wonderful.

Wonderful.

So I took the nitric acid home and made this thing.

So I was practical in doing things.
