And everybody after the game was saying, why didn't you go to your best pitcher?
Why didn't you go to Louis Varlin in that position?
And people were freaking on John Schneider at that point.
Now, we could sit here and argue that at that point of the season, had he really kind of decided that Varlin was his closer, were we still kind of doing this bullpen by committee kind of thing, closer by committee?
I'm willing to listen to that, but I think even then, a month ago, we all knew that Varlin should be the guy.
Put your best player in and put yourself in the best position to win.
And he didn't do that, and things got away, and he was getting killed for that.
So what did he do this past weekend?
He went to Varlin.
My criticism, I guess, would be, if it's fair to even use that word, I'm not sure why you couldn't go back to Louie again in the ninth.
He threw only 12 pitches in the eighth inning, and...
I believe, you can check me on this if I'm wrong, because you're down at the ballpark much more than I am, but I believe John Schneider's been the kind of guy that in the past, and I'm kind of paraphrasing here, but he's essentially a manager that says, let's get today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.
So if you get today, let's go back to where we started this conversation before the Zoom glitches.
We started off talking about how the Jays had a chance to get to 500, maybe even get above 500.
If you win that game on Saturday, Blake, you have now taken three straight over the Orioles.
You've won five in a row.
You're a game above 500.
Going into Sunday, you're playing with House Monday.
If you end up losing Sunday, you say, you know what?
Heck, it was still a hell of a weekend.
