I felt such desperation.

I felt it was what I had to do.

MacArthur Foundation is a foundation that has been working to support creativity and the kinds of effective uses of philanthropy through its history.

And this really is a part of what we do.

We support people individually as fellows who are doing some of the most interesting work in every space of human endeavor.

And that's what we're best known for, sometimes called the genius grants.

But we also do grant making of the sort that is to organizations.

Sometimes they're ones led by MacArthur Fellows and others over time.

I think about Sophia Noble, a relatively recent MacArthur fellow from about five years ago who also leads an organization in this space.

So we will follow on with those individuals.

And what's motivating is really what's motivating Michelle and Omidyar, and it's why we are teamed up in deep, deep collaboration around humanity AI, is this technology is touching every part of our lives.

You cover this on your podcast over and over, and it is no longer the remit just of technology.

you know, engineers.

It's no longer the remit just of some people.

It touches every one of us.

And I believe that there are ways in which we can, through philanthropy, make sure that more people get the benefits of this technology rather than having it just accrue to the few.

And that's the kind of thing that we can do through an effort like Humanity AI.

And if we don't do it now during this window, then I think we're going to be missing a big opportunity.

So what motivates me is how do we support the kind of creativity that

that make sure that AI is popular, not unpopular, as you started with, for good reason, because it's actually helping us in our everyday lives across the span of education or democracy or any of the other things that we're all working on as philanthropies.
