They chose two men who they knew were never going to work.
for the reasons I'll be revealing throughout this podcast.
And not just that, but the producers also decided to introduce a man with very dangerous views and storylines exploring this question, is this guy a homophobe or just a dickhead?
That was quite a dangerous decision they decided to make.
As those in charge of this show, they know it's watched by millions of people and they know that the behaviours that are promoted on this, on primetime TV, can...
And will be repeated out there in the real world.
Another interesting point I want to make here, though, is last year, at the time Chris and Sam filmed their wedding, gay hate crimes were on the rise across Australia.
And that was all over the media.
So again, that decision, which was made to feature a gay couple on this season,
A decision made at that time when homophobia was becoming more and more prevalent across this country again.
It had the power to do so much good and challenge so much bias and hatred and prejudice out there.
But, as I said, those pulling the strings decided, actually, nah, let's do the opposite.
They decided to cast for drama instead of genuine connection and introduced a twist in Tyson that they knew would perpetuate hate and create even more divide out there in the real world.
But in this episode, I'm not going to go too much into that or Tyson and all that drama.
This is about Chris and Sam and what went down between them on the show.
What's happened since filming wrapped?
What happened before they went on the show?
And also, how do I fit into this big gay story?
As always, let's start at the very beginning.
