It was created in the early 1900s by Italian immigrants adapting their cured meats to our American tastes.
So, if you go to Italy, I have never been, but if I ever do, you will not find traditional pepperoni there.
You'll find, so, prosciutto, salami, and salami picante.
Most Italians actually don't call their sauces pepperoni because it literally translates to bell peppers.
So now tourists are a little awkward when you order pizza, especially Americans in Italy.
That's right.

So, I mean, you could go there with our Americanized Chinese food, too, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And all the MSG and all that.
