I would love to find a better person to do it because I just think some people are just better at it.
But what I can do is go around and talk to people and say, you don't have to be, you know, when we think of politicians, we think of people that have worked in that place since they left school and they've never done anything else but politics.
I think I'm a great example to show people that you don't have to be a management consultant or a political advisor or a strategist to be a politician.
Actually, what we do need is more regular folk.
Yeah, and not ego-led.
What we need is more people joining who probably don't want to do it, but...
actually really care about the place they live and the country they live and the world that they live and surprise we all live on the same flipping planet and there's only one habitable planet that we know of so i would love not to do it but if i have to i will we're in your apartment right we're in a private space this isn't where community necessarily happens this these are places of retreat they're very personal intimate spaces
Maybe 70% of my obsession last year was the third spaces, public realm.
And, you know, in Fremantle what we've got is there was a wave of taking away benches.
So maybe we'll walk through to the High Street Mall.
There's not a single bench.
It's like a desert.
And that's, you know, to dissuade antisocial behaviour or whatever.
And now people just sit on the floor, so that's a great outcome.
But, you know, we've got barely any toilets, public toilets.
You know, things like that.
And I think we need to make our public spaces for the public because we own those spaces and they should be shaded.
They should be full of life and vitality.
And we need to draw people out of their homes...
And you know when you go to Italy and there's all the nonnas sitting on one bench, old blokes sitting on the other one, and they do it every morning and they do it every afternoon, and even if they've got different perspectives, even if they politically are opposite, they'll argue and jostle in real life.
