The distraction and discipline of a job you love.
You know, I had to go on, I had to schedule interviews, I had to make phone calls, I had to go out on stories.
And I used to tell myself in the morning, you are not the story, you are not the story, you are not the story.
Because of course, sometimes, you know, the temptation is to spill the beans.
And it was really great that I had a sense of purpose to pull me through.
Tell me about the book club meeting you went to with your friends that sort of went a bit wrong.
Well, I went, this is a group of us who reconnected.
We'd all been student theatre together 40 years ago.
Really old friends, yeah.
And we knew each other's secrets almost, although I hadn't confided or shared in any of them what had happened.
And one of my girlfriends, her husband had just left her for a much younger woman, only three years older than their daughter.
And she'd been out to lunch that day and she asked if I could drive because she was feeling a bit tipsy.
And so I thought, no worries.
I only had a couple of glasses of wine at the book club.
We were discussing Christina Steeds, the man who loved children.
