Again, not really how I would recommend it.
That sold my dad a little bit, my mom not so much.
She was still less than pleased.
And I thought, you know what, let me just try it.
There's a beauty in being 18 and not having to commit to anything.
And I walked into my first class the next semester.
It was the history of journalism class.
which doesn't sound super thrilling, but after one class, I was like, you know what?
This is the only class that's really been able to hold my attention so far.
I think we might be onto something.
And ASU has turned into such a powerhouse in journalism, sports journalism, especially.
So to be able to major in that specifically and take advantage of working in spring training
But that was essentially it.
I had some really great professors.
The ability to go and work spring training was just the cherry on top.
And then as I was graduating MLB.com, the final year of their internship, which I thought was one of the best internships in professional sports, I was lucky enough to land one of those covering the San Diego Padres under AJ Cassaville, who was excellent.
And did some freelancing in between.
Always wanted to write for The Athletic.
Did some freelance for them as well back in the Bay Area where I'm from, covering some A's.
And in 2021, the Cardinals job opened.
