I was in hospital with ulcerative colitis.
It's a colitis of the bowel and I was bleeding.
I was going all the time.
They were going to remove my bowel.
Nobody wondered why I was like that.
You were so distressed and depressed.
Because I couldn't talk about it.
My friends told me recently, when I went back, when I was at my 80th, they said, we came to see you.
I remember them standing around me in a circle, asking me how I was, and I couldn't speak.
I just couldn't speak.
They said, you wouldn't speak.
And I said, I couldn't speak.
I'd made this terrible decision, and I had to go with it.
So I went back nursing and I tried to throw myself into it with this illness, which was kept under control with drugs.
And I met your grandfather.
Well, I lived in this little, I was nursing, but I'd gone home to my parents' house and he was working in tobacco.
