So it was very common that mum and dad would get woken up in the middle of the night for something.

What would the pub be like on weekends, Friday nights, Saturday nights?

You say that's when a lot of the jacaroos and other people working on the stations had come in.

What do you remember about weekends?

It was very busy.

The ringers would come in from all the stations.

You got the Australian and the Indigenous.

So there was a lot of Indigenous ringers in those days working together out on the...

on the properties.

It was kind of, I guess, a mixture between the Indigenous cowboys, you know, we would call them, and the white Australian.

And they would come in and drink.

And when they would get on the drink, they would start to fight, right?

So there was a lot of clashing and fighting between the Indigenous people and the white Australian people.

only because of alcohol.

So I saw a lot of violence with that.

There was even a shooting one night when someone fired a .22 and two bullets went through a caravan.

I think that was towards the end of 77 when Mum said, you know, this is enough.
