He's shown up for big events consistently over the past few years and regular season.
If you look at his record in regular tour events, he's not bringing his best golf to a lot of the tour events.
So I would think
Rory's in that rare camp where he can just summon it and other guys need to grind in PGA Tour events to get that form together so that they can bring it to a major.
I don't even think Rory needs it.
He could have finished second at Quail Hollow this week or 65th and I don't think it would change how much I think he can win next week.
Oh, that's a little strong.
I love this type of setup for Rory McIlroy.
It's not identical to Oak Hill.
Especially the greens are very, very different from Oak Hill.
But I think especially the kind of tree line, northeastern, you're not going to get killed for getting a little bit loose off of the tee.
I love the way that that sets up for Rory.
And I would say that he played like a C- maybe at Oak Hill.
A C and finished tied for 7th.
This is one of those types of setups that I think if Rory, as long as he's fine off of the tee and just not terrible, he's remotely straight, I think he can bring his B game and be in the final group on Sunday.
So there's a world, Andy, in which we get a Scottie-Rory duel, and we haven't had that major yet.
So maybe we're setting the stage for our first true Rory-Scottie duel.
Andy, would you say that this type of setup is the most sensitive to weather?
Because it feels to me like it's not sandy soil, so it's not going to dry out as well.
These forecasts should be monitored going into the Northeast, going into the Philly tournaments much more than anywhere else in the world.
