It's understandable.
God's love, mercy, and forgiveness are much more enjoyable topics.
We all prefer to hear things that make us feel better.
Perhaps some preachers feel they can retain their audience by teaching smooth and comforting things.
Now, topics like God's love, His grace, and the opportunity for forgiveness are essential topics that must be taught.
But they cannot be taught while ignoring the rest of Scripture.
God is holy, and He is just.
Yes, God is love, but that is why He warns us of the fate we earn through sin.
God is merciful, but never promises to redeem those who persist in their sinful rebellion.
Crowds may prefer comforting teaching.
It may be easier to focus on enjoyable things.
But true, godly love will not conceal the full measure of God's word.
Those truly committed to the truth will share the whole counsel of God, including God's warnings of eternal condemnation.
Many people don't believe in hell, but then again, many people don't believe in God.
Just because someone doesn't believe in God doesn't mean they won't be judged by him one day.
And just because someone doesn't believe in hell doesn't mean they won't spend eternity there if they persist in sin.
Jesus, the Lamb of God, the one who died for our sins, taught plainly that hell is real and his enemies will spend eternity there.
but he also died on the cross so we don't have to endure that fate.
He warns of hell so that we will listen to him, believe in him, and obey him so that instead of eternal punishment, we can be spared and inherit eternal life with him instead.
Have you ever been given a warning?
