Today is a bad day to be a terrorist in the United States of America. Today, the Supreme Court came out with a decision that reaffirmed President Trump was correct in using his authority on using the Alien Enemies Act to deport terrorists out of this country.
The world knows that they need the United States of America. They need our markets. They need our consumer. The president has a lot of leverage on his side because he has the best economy and the best country in the world that he leads. He knows that. And it's about dang time we finally have a president who uses that economic leverage to benefit American workers.
It was a mistake for China to retaliate. When America is punched, he punches back harder. That's why there will be 104% tariffs going into effect on China tonight at midnight. If China reaches out to make a deal, he'll be incredibly gracious.
He's made it very clear to Iran they have a choice to make. You can strike a deal with the president, you can negotiate, or there will be hell to pay.
It's safer for our communities. It saves us taxpayer dollars and it allows them an opportunity to come back to this country and to be an American and to live the American dream, which is truly what our history is all about. So yes, Jesse, this is not a new law. I'm just announcing that I'm going to enforce our law.
First of all, do not come to our country illegally. You will be removed and you will be prosecuted. But know that this facility is one of the tools in our toolkit that we will use if you commit crimes against the American people.
If you had elected a leader that will work with President Donald J. Trump, the Polish people will have an ally strong that will ensure that you will be able to fight off enemies that do not share your values.

Unfortunately, under the Biden administration, they prioritized illegal aliens over American families. And so this memorandum is going to be a partnership that we will form to make sure that these housing programs are going to only people who deserve it. People who are in this country that need assistance, that want a better life for their families. So thank you for being here today.

Trump, for securing our border, for deporting criminal illegal immigrants, and for putting America first. For too long, weak politicians left our borders wide open. They flooded our communities with drugs, human trafficking, and violent criminals. They put American lives at risk.
Well, those days are over.
Do you believe that you have the right to detain or deport a legal permanent resident for expressing their political opinion?
I also want everybody to know if you come to our country illegally, this is one of the consequences you could face. First of all, do not come to our country illegally. You will be removed and you will be prosecuted. But know that this facility is one of the tools in our toolkit that we will use if you commit crimes against the American people.
So we are in several other countries around the world with a message right now that's saying, if you are thinking about coming to America illegally and coming here, don't do it. You are not welcome. We have a legal process to becoming a United States citizen. And there are consequences if you come here illegally. And America has changed because we're putting Americans first.
Are you expecting a recession this year?
It really is about fentanyl. It really is. And I think the president obviously wants a strong economy, obviously wants better trade deals as well. But this is about fentanyl and what we can do to stop the cartels from partnering with Chinese officials, laundering money, and bringing a poison into our country that is specifically designed to kill the next generation.
I did. I talked about why America needs conservatives. And it's a belief system that this country was founded on that we believe and that we want to protect because it really is what has given us the opportunity to be successful and the most exceptional nation in the world for hundreds of years. The left has gotten extremely far out there.
I tell people all the time that I knew I served with extremists when I was in Congress. What's changed the last couple of years is they're so proud of it. They're so boldly declaring their embracement of socialism and communist principles and values that that is a dramatic shift that we've seen in the last few years.
And that's why Republicans are united around the conservative message and will continue to defend our history. Our leaders that led us through challenging times, they had flaws, but they also did incredible things for us and our children and grandchildren, and that we need to continue to talk about the value that that applies to today's culture and our government as well.
There's a very specific reason that our founders gave the federal government very limited powers. They wanted the vast majority of the power to remain with the states and with the people. And we're going to have to continue to educate folks on why that is important and then show to them that it really does work and create a better situation for their families.
That's what we did here in South Dakota. We've talked for years in this state about our conservative values. We put them into place this year and we're showing that it really does work and it really is the best path to success.
Here we have a guy named Gonzalez, who's been convicted of sodomy of children less than 13 years of age. He has been sentenced to prison, but he is out of our country now thanks to President Trump. Another guy here who is arrested and has been removed, but he was convicted for possession of distributing child porn.
Well, habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country and suspend their right to... Let me stop you, ma'am.
I do not, no.
No, I do not, sir. Okay, well, it is in Article 1.
I think what really sets this apart is the willingness to use government and use the power of government in ways that previous conservatives resisted. And in particular, that means empowering the executive branch and the president, which is something that a lot of conservatives have been wary of for really all of American history.
Mr. President, you wanted people to know that there was consequences if you break our laws and harm our people and endanger families. And this is a clear consequence for the worst of the worst that we have somewhere to put them.
Here we are with Marco and Brian today. They're letting me roll with them. We're going to go out and pick up somebody who I think has got charges of human trafficking. Earlier had an op that swept up somebody who was wanted for murder. So appreciate the good work that they do every day. And we appreciate them working to make America safe.
It's a powerful statement. I love that opinion that he brought forward just because it's so, it's the clarity that we need in this country right now of what was guaranteed, um, by us in the United States of America. So I, those decisions were very, very important.
And we have a lot of people that get confused about the role of faith and government and government and faith and schools and how that interaction happens. And in fact, even in South Dakota this year, I brought a bill that would have put a moment of silence into a school day. It would have been a moment every day where a student had an opportunity to have either a prayer if they wanted to, um,
pray to whoever they would like to, or a moment of silence or just a quiet time. But it was to clearly draw a line in the sand that praying is allowed in our schools, that it is facilitated, that every teacher, every administrator, every person in the state would know that that is something that you have a right to do. And it was killed by Republicans.
That bill was killed by Republicans because they did not feel it would be something that the school should have to worry about. They didn't want the controversy of it. And So this type of decision brings clarity to so many people about the fact that that faith is to be protected from the government.
It's not to protect our government from our faith and our religion, that this is one thing that people could use some direction from. And I'm so thankful for the Supreme Court making a decision that truly sends that message to the country.
Well, it was interesting because many of these Republicans said, well, this isn't a problem in South Dakota yet. And I thought, why do we have to constantly? It has been an issue now since legislative session got out in a couple of school districts. And what's interesting to me is, is as leaders, you should lead, be clear and bring clarity when you can, especially now.
in our school districts, which right now are kind of a war zone for people that have other agendas and other opinions and trying to indoctrinate certain beliefs on our children.
So it's interesting to me that the people that get confused on religion and schools and government, I'm hopeful that we can bring more clarity with decisions like this so that in our schools, our kids feel the freedom that if they want to stop for a minute by their locker and have a quick prayer with a friend, they can do that. That's what this country is all about.
You know, I honestly don't know. People ask it a lot, so obviously I've had to think about it a bit, but it's just not something that's in my plans. I'm running for re-election this year in South Dakota. I'm hoping that people will trust me to lead for another four years as governor.
Beyond that, I think anybody who's making plans just maybe doesn't understand the volatility of this political environment that we're in. And I'm always a little leery, Megan, of people who dream of being president of the United States. I think these people that grow up and plan it for years and years, probably should never be president of the United States.
They more than likely want to do it for the wrong reasons. I think it's probably time in this country we have a reluctant president again, because those are the ones that Truly take the job seriously, recognize the challenges of it. And the reality is we start looking at the Republican primary. There's probably going to be 48 different people running in that primary.
You know, there's a lot of people who are saying they want to be president of the United States. I'm just not convinced that it has to be me.
He, you know, I dearly love the guy. He let me do my job as governor and he helped me, you know, when I was in Congress with tax reform, he was passionate and truly did some big things in this country. So I appreciate his policies and what he did. I'd love to have him back, especially compared to who we have in the white house today.
You know, the fact is right now, I don't think anybody can beat him in a primary. So if he does run, you know, he's going to have to figure out how he wins a general election. And I think the way to do that, because right now it would be difficult. It'd be a challenge.
I think he has got to put together a team that gives people confidence in the fact that he's got the right people together that are going to fix the country, put it right. The ship, you know, he's got to announce who his attorney general would be. He, During that campaign, he'd have to say who his secretary of state would be, who his vice president would be.
That would be something that would reassure and unite a lot of Republicans. I think Republicans really got to get it together and grow up a little bit, too, because they're all just trying to pretend that he's not going to run or hope for it and make no plans. We've got to figure out how do we put a strategy together to really win because our country is counting on it more than ever.
Oh, my goodness.
I love the big hair. Pretty successful for people don't know that much. Oh, yeah, there we are. From your book. What year was this? So that was 1990 in South Dakota, um, especially back then. And when you were a senior in high school, most of the girls competed in the snow queen contest, which really was a local, um, area contest where you gave interviews and speeches, um, and, uh,
They chose one to go on to the state competition. And through that, you got scholarships. At that time, they gave a car, other items. And then you traveled throughout the Midwest or the country being an ambassador for your state to different festivals and different gatherings or whatever. So.
I did that with all my friends when I was a senior in high school, won the local contest and then went to the state contest with 52 other young women. And yeah, very interesting experience because I'm, you know, if you remember, I was a ranch girl. In fact, when I won the state competition, the headline in all the newspapers was,
farm girl wins snow queen it was like everybody that thought um wow this is different so uh but it was very good for me you know it's interesting you go back that far and To know that much about my state, travel, and get to be an ambassador for it, it really was a great opportunity for me to... Well, a new car doesn't suck either. Oh, no. You would have loved it.
It was a black Trans Am with the sunroof, but on the side of it, it had huge gold letters that said 1990 South Dakota Snow Queen on it.
That's the car I took to college. Imagine me pulling onto... campus with this car that had big gold lettering on it. It was, yeah, it was fantastic. And I was in the dorm with the entire football team. So, you know, I didn't get any teasing whatsoever.
Oh, yeah, it's true. You know, it's interesting. I totaled out that car too. So that was the last year they gave a car to the Snow Queens. So sad.
Well... Yeah, I had a dad that was like, you get to where you're going fast and get back here with those parts for that tractor or hurry up and go get this and don't make me wait. You know, that was how we were raised. So and if we got speeding tickets, we paid them and kept going.
Yeah. Um, that's the one thing I wish I could tell people is that you're not ever guaranteed another day. You're not guaranteed. You're going to see these people again. We have enough tragedies in our family and in our country that, that that's the reality. And, and sometimes you watch people just throw people away in their lives that, that, you know, is unnecessary.
So I, I talk a little bit in the book about having him be gone and, um, Just the fact that I wish I hadn't complained so much when he asked me to do stuff. I wish I would have sat down and visited more when I had the chance to. He always hurt. His back hurt so bad. He was always in pain because he worked so hard. And he used to ask us to rub his feet at night.
And I just remember thinking, I wish that I just... you know, would have not once, you know, tried to sneak upstairs without him seeing me. So I didn't have to rub his feet for him. So he would feel better. You know, that's the kind of stuff that you just don't realize you're missing out on until they're already gone. It was very difficult because he was such a larger than life person.
And I'm sure your dad was like this to you too. You know, your whole life as a young girl revolves kind of around your dad. And, and when all of a sudden they're gone, you can't even imagine what the next 24 hours is going to look like much less the rest of your life.
Well, you know, my dad wasn't a talker. He was a doer. And so it was, it took me probably five or six months before I could clean out his pickup. You know, farmers and ranchers live in their pickup, everything they have, their notes, their pens, their tools.
I, you know, even I talk about the fact that he always had a case of warm seven up and old candy bars or whatever in his backseat of his truck. And, You know, you just, everything that was important was in his pickup. And it took me a long time to go clean out his pickup after he passed away.
But when I did, I opened up the council and there was dozens of these little, you know, dictation tapes in there and a little tape recorder that, you know, doctors talked into back then. And it was his voice. And it was just him talking.
I had been running the farm then, a very large operational, a lot of people working for me, a lot of men working for me that were middle-aged that didn't want to be working for a 22 year old pregnant lady or a lady with a brand new baby and getting challenged on every decision I was making. And here on these tapes was every answer I could have ever wanted.
What soil type was the best for what crop, what to do with cattle, what to do if we ever got into financial trouble. And then some of these tapes were years and years old. In fact, he'd moved them from pickup to pickup. And when he'd gotten a new pickup, he just moved them.
And there was a tape in there almost 10 years old where he talked about us kids, what he thought our strengths were, what our weaknesses were. And it was just amazing because this is not something my dad rarely said, you know, I love you, much less talked about us. And it was, that was when I knew everything was going to be okay. I thought if God loves me this much,
that he literally gave me all the answers that I needed in his own voice, then we're going to be fine. And I think that was the first night that I finally could sleep because I felt the peace that I knew we were going to be okay.
Well, I mean, I appreciate it. Sometimes I think he might become kind of crazy, but I think that, yeah, he was pretty incredible. And my mom is probably the only woman in the world that could have been married to him because all he did was work all the time.
I remember her, you know, as we were going out the door to work all the time, her shoving food in our pockets and here, just eat this on the way to the field and, you know, facilitating everything and taking care of everybody. It was really unique, but you know what? We were together.
And that's what I think so many families don't make a priority today is that it just wasn't an option not to be with our family. And I think that's one of the reasons why we turned out and we ended up with a value system that really does give us this quality of life we get to enjoy.

And we're not deporting US citizens and we're not deporting people who have legal status here.

I support habeas corpus. I also recognize that the President of the United States has the authority under the Constitution to decide if it should be suspended or not.
I tell you what, Jesse, what happened last Friday was we had members of Congress assaulting law enforcement officers. They were cooperating with criminals to create criminal acts. And then they're saying that they were providing oversight. This wasn't oversight. This was committing felonies. This was going out and attacking people who stand up for the rule of law.
ICE officers get up every single day and they love their jobs because they finally get to do their jobs with President Trump in the White House. And the fact that a member of Congress punched them, hit them, body slammed them, and then claimed that they were the victims, it's astounding to me that someone would even vote for someone and put them in a place of leadership
when they perpetuate something as hypocritical and as criminal as what these individuals did. So I hope that the rest of the members of the House of Representatives will hold them accountable. They shouldn't be allowed to be on the committees that they're on. In fact, one of them is supposed to be conducting oversight over ICE, and instead she's assaulting them.
And they don't deserve to be in the House. They should be censured by it. What's happening in this country and what agendas the Democrats are embracing is absurd. And it's not American. And I'm hoping that the American people recognize it and hold them accountable for what they're doing for criminal acts against people in this country.
The administration has the authority to... Ma'am, I'm looking for a yes or no question.
Due process is exactly what this Congress lays out.
When these, the specific cases that you're referencing with these children, it was the parents' choice to take their children.

I don't know the number, but I do know these mothers went on the record filling out paperwork and any interviews reiterating that they wanted to keep their children.

Obrego Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador and should never have been in this country. and will not be coming back to this country. Yes or no? It is up to the president of El Salvador to make the decision on if he is coming back. It's been a big topic of conversation between all of us, between the country. When the president visited the United States of America, it was discussed and talked about there. Okay. The president has been very clear on this issue as the secretary of state. And I have as well.
Abrego Garcia is not a citizen of this country and is a dangerous individual who does not belong.

I don't make decisions on legal status here in the United States. The Department of State does that, and I would say that as they've gone through an evaluation of who gets a visa, who gets legal status, green cards, they've been evaluating and discussing how that applies.
The Department of State makes those decisions.
The Department of Homeland Security under the Trump administration is enforcing the law following the constitutional rights of folks who are here as citizens, those who are here legally, and those who are here illegally.
The determination you're asking for is based on... things that you are determining that the secretary of state has considered and evaluated we don't evaluate that the administration along with the partnership of the department of state on what is political speech and what's an affiliation with the foreign do you believe that's the difference
We have not detained or we have not deported anybody who's a legal permanent resident or a citizen of the United States.
That is exactly what I'm doing, is that we have followed exactly what the law is and that we have not detained or deported anybody who's a citizen or has legal status. in this country. We are focused on the worst of the worst dangerous criminals to get them out of the country.
We have not done that at all. And the Trump administration has no plans to do that. Well, just because you haven't done it doesn't mean that you won't do it in the future. We are following the federal law to ensure that we are doing the exact appropriate thing in partnership with the Department of State and in partnership with the Trump administration.
This administration is following all federal court orders. It's the president's prerogative on conversations that happen with the president of El Salvador.

I truly believe this. I truly believe this as an American.
Sir, we are utilizing every due process tool that this Congress has afforded us. The Congress decides what due process is appropriate for every situation. Expedited removal is a due process that you have afforded us that we are utilizing. The alien enemies.
So we are giving due process and using the tools that this Congress has given us.
President Trump has been very clear since the beginning that he believes that FEMA and its response. in many, many circumstances has failed the American people. And that FEMA, as it exists today, should be eliminated and empowering states to respond to disasters with federal government support.

Yes, that's what I'm saying, is that the American people now are saying that we have had our personal information shared and out there in the public.
Yeah, but Elon Musk is part of the administration that is helping us identify where we can find savings and what we can do. And he has gone through the processes to make sure that he has the authority the president has granted him. I am today by the work that he's doing by identifying waste, fraud, and abuse.
And his information that he has is looking at programs, not focusing on personal data and information.
We'll be continuing to talk to him about what all he has access to, but this audit needs to happen to make sure that we are going through a process that adds integrity back into these programs.
You know, that's just bull. And I just wish they would grow up and really recognize what we're doing here. What we're doing is, of course, we're giving due process to migrants. We've done that all the time following the same procedures we always have been. But where are they advocating for the children that are missing that Joe Biden lost?
Why are they not advocating for these families that have lost children? Lake and Riley's family, Jocelyn's family. Why are they not out there fighting for them and saying, thank you, Mr. President? for making sure that our kids aren't going to continue to be killed by drugs and trafficking and have dangerous criminals robbing small businesses in our hometowns.
I mean, just get your priorities straight. This is about America. So start focusing on them instead of focusing on these dangerous people. I watched a plane load of people unload a Gitmo that were pedophiles, child pornographers. They were drug dealers in our communities that literally these cartels are partnering with the Chinese to kill our next generation of Americans.
That's who we're putting down there at Gitmo. And I'm just so thankful that they're not in our country anymore.
He can. And I believe that he will do that evaluation with his team. And he's talking about it, which I'm grateful for. He'll work with Congress, though, to make sure that it's done correctly and that we're still there to help folks who have a terrible disaster or crisis in their life.
He's been very clear that he still believes there's a role for the federal government to come in and help people get back up on their feet. But there's a lot of fraud and waste and abuse out there. And since President Trump has taken over and come back into this administration. We've seen incredible changes.
You know, he's talked a lot about doing block grants to states and to local officials. I was a governor. And when I was governor of South Dakota, we saw 12 different natural disasters that hit our state that were FEMA related, that we had FEMA disasters. So I know it from that level.
And I knew every single time that I and the local county emergency management directors, the mayors, the city councils and the county commissioners, they made way better decisions than the people in Washington, D.C.
I would say, yes, get rid of FEMA the way it exists today. We still need the resources and the funds and the finances to go to people that have these types of disasters like Hurricane Helene and the fires in California. But you need to let the local officials make the decisions on how that is deployed so it can be deployed much quicker.
And we don't need this bureaucracy that's picking and choosing winners. You mentioned Congress.
We're working with them at the president's direction to find what we can do to make our department much more efficient.
This is essentially an audit of the federal government, which is very powerful and needs to have happen. That agency, and one of the things I've been very clear to the appropriators in the Senate, in the House, is please give me the authority to reprogram funds.
Yes, that's what I'm saying, is that the American people now are saying that we have had our personal information shared and out there in the public.

Let me stop you, ma'am. Excuse me, that's incorrect. President Lincoln used it. Excuse me. Habeas corpus is the legal principle that requires that the government provide a public reason for detaining and imprisoning people.
Secretary of Homeland Security. President Trump has a clear message for those that are in our country illegally. Leave now. If you don't, we will find you and we will deport you. You will never return.
We have found some leakers. We are continuing to get more. They will be fired. There will be consequences. And remember, when they leak information to the press in order to blow it up, they are putting law enforcement lives in jeopardy. They are risking their lives and putting their families in the position where they have to live without those individuals any further.
So you bet we have used every tactic that we have. And it's amazing. how these bureaucrats who have an agenda to stop the work that we're doing to bring safety to America, how they will sell each other down the river if it's just to protect themselves. So don't worry.
I am doing everything to find these leakers and to get rid of them so that we can do our work and our law enforcement officers and agents can do it safely.
All that information will be compiled to help us make the best decisions on how to equip the Secret Service for what they face. But, you know, you think about how threats have changed, the dangers have changed, what they have to be prepared for. It's unprecedented, the scenarios they could find themselves in.
So we need to respect the fact that danger is all around us now, and we've got a lot of unstable people who really... have more access to more items that could be created to do damage, and that we have a situation where politics is polarizing. You know, there's something I was talking to my husband about this weekend, that there's something about the way that the media has used fear
to scare people, to promote an agenda, to divide people, that takes people and makes violent acts acceptable. And so the media, I would say the fake news is shameful for twisting and telling lies that divides people and doesn't bring us together on a shared purpose.
Yes, right.
I believe that still holds true today. So we need to make sure that there's still voices out there of truth and people who still love each other.
I mean, that's... That's really why we were created is that we're all human beings. We may disagree on a few things, but boy, we were created to serve each other. And that's what we need to be reminded of as well. Well, amen.
Yes, that's right. That tells you.
No, I didn't. It was kind of shocking, actually, because it was sitting right by my feet. I actually felt... My purse, he hooked it with his foot and drug it a few steps away and dropped a coat over it and took it. But, you know, I felt it, but I thought it was my grandkids kicking me in the legs. But it was very professionally done. And I think that is, yes, the theft was.
And it tells me that this happens all the time to people. And that they live in communities where this is a danger and it reaffirms why I'm here. My job is to make sure that I do everything every day I can to make our communities safer. And President Trump recognizes that families shouldn't have to live with any kind of violence in their lives.
I don't know. And there's an investigation going on. But I think I was a busy grandma with four kids, four grandkids under the age of four. And I was, you know, taking care of them and feeding them food and enjoying my family. Yeah. But certainly had my purse even touching my feet. And that's how vulnerable people can be.
So I think we need to be aware, but also be making sure there's consequences for people like that that make a living off of harming other people.

Oh, it's phenomenal. It's phenomenal what leadership can do in the White House to make a difference for the American people. You know, honestly, if you look at the southern border, which was the number one priority of this president and concern of the country, it's under 99% operational control, which is phenomenal.
We set the record for the lowest encounters at the border in February and March in the history of the nation. So not only did he fundamentally change everything, Yes. In the first 100 days. But he is doing a better job securing the border than we ever have in the nation's history.
Well, and what President Trump tasked me with specifically was communicating to people that we were securing our border. And if you were coming to this country to turn around and go back. So we actually have ads running in international countries that are running in Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico that are saying, if you were thinking about coming to the United States illegally, don't do it.
You can't get in. And if you get here, you can be charged criminally and we will take you back. So there will be consequences if you continue.
Is that actually happening? Yes, they absolutely are. And that's the one thing that the president really wanted people to know is that there's consequences now. Before, under Joe Biden, you could break the law, you could perpetuate violence, you could do whatever you wanted to do, and they did nothing. But President Trump said, Christy, we need to communicate what the consequences are.
It's one of the reasons I visited that prison, was to talk to President Bukele, ask him not onlyβ You know how he had fundamentally changed the future of his country, because if you think about what the transformation that has happened in El Salvador since he's been president, it's phenomenal. He's got one of the lowest murder rates in the world.
Yes, it's incredible what he has done. And he's done it through leadership and consequences. And that prison President Trump wanted people to see, to know that it could be a real consequence for those that are members of foreign terrorist organizations. And that these gangs, MS-13 and TDA, are terrorists. They have been conducting terrorist operations in this country and they need to get out.
I know they really did. It was kind of interesting, yeah, that they thought that.
And I think people, you know, people have their criticisms, but it makes a big impact and people see it. And they recognize that that's possible for those individuals that are doing what the things that those men in those cells raped children. Yeah, they were child pedophiles. They were murderers. They weren't people that were out there, you know, getting speeding tickets.
These were individuals who made a life of violence. And to have consequences like that is pretty impactful for people to understand the message across this country.
Well, you know, Seacott is a prison that will hold 40,000 prisoners. There's about 80 prisoners in each cell. I spent a lot of time with the warden and the president talking about it, and they just said nobody will ever leave there. They will live there until they die of natural causes. It is a life sentence that they will spend there, and he wants to build another prison.
You know, he had MS-13 overtaking his country. And so he went hard after them. And he said, if you don't get aggressive in the United States, you will have that happen in America. And we do have some MS-13 members now in the United States that were born here. They're citizens.
So that gets even more complicated and why we need to get so aggressive at getting them out and having them returned back to their home country before they get a foothold and recruit more of our children.
Yes, absolutely. People need to see them. They need to understand why I'm out there with them. The reason I'm out there with them and with our ICE agents, HSI, CBP, Coast Guard, is because I want to know what their lives are like. They've never had a secretary go out there in years and years and spend a day with them, do patrols with them.
That's where I found out that our ICE agents need new authorities so that when they can interdict drugs... They can't arrest them. So getting them that training and authority they need to do that, I wouldn't have learned that if I hadn't gone out there and spent time with them. I wouldn't have learned that some of the equipment that HSI was using and CBP didn't work.
Some of them had bulletproof vests that weren't certified anymore. Some of them didn't have the authority to make some decisions that were best to really enforce the law that the president directed. Yeah.
You don't learn how vulnerable we are if you don't realize the weak spots, and that's why I'm out there on the front lines talking with them and finding out what do you really need to do your job, and do you understand what the president wants you to do and that he's got your back, and he wants you to enforce the law.
So that communication with the American people is important, but it's also important for me making decisions every day. I don't want to take all my information from people sitting behind desks in Washington. I think we've seen that that doesn't work.
I honestly haven't. I've never seen Democrats go out and endorse and fight for the freedom of a terrorist. Someone that a court said was a terrorist, that an immigration appellate court said was a terrorist, that local law enforcement.
agents built a case and said he was a terrorist that had perpetuated violence against his family had been suspected of human trafficking by moving people from texas to maryland in 2022 as well and that when he was incarcerated and picked up was surrounded by terrorists and the fact that they would try to say this guy is a normal um father from maryland that that they should be advocating for to come back to this country there's just no scenario where that should ever happen
I believe it was, and I believe it was either from that or from local law enforcement. But it was from people that had built a case against him. And that's what I think the American people need to understand is we don't just go out and look at tattoos and arrest people and deport them. Right. We build a case against each of these individuals.
We have Homeland Security investigations and experts that go out and build a case to make sure that these people are who we believe that they are and that many of them have been prosecuted and convicted and that they need to leave this country because they hate America.
Oh, absolutely. We're making sure. And that's one of the things that President Bukele and I talked about when I was in El Salvador was that we know who these people are. We're sending you people who belong here. And he told us that he would certainly take more and that we should always make sure that they're members of those two gangs, because that's what that place was built for.
We are working on people that have final removal orders. So we've deported hundreds of thousands of people that have final removal orders, which means they overstayed their stay. They missed appearances in immigration court, and they've been told that they have to leave, and they never have. So they've knowingly violated the law.
We also are enforcing a law that was put in place after World War II called the Alien Registration Act. that says if you are here illegally, you need to register within 30 days. If you don't register with the federal government, then that you could be charged criminally and you'll be deported and you'll never get to come back.
If you self-deport, you decide, okay, I'm here illegally and I want to be an American. I want to come to this country. I love it. I want to work here. Then self-deport, identify yourself, and then we will make sure you get the chance to come back to this country.
Oh, absolutely. And I think we've already seen big action, but we've already seen because of that message that you can self-deport and then you can come back again, that you get a second chance. Thousands of people are self-deporting.
So thousands of people are taking themselves home and we're working on helping those financially that want to self-deport so we can maybe help them with a commercial airline ticket too.
Yes.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, the Secret Service is filled with phenomenal human beings. I mean, there are people that took a pledge to, you know, enforce the law and to go out and to be protectees and investigations and respect this country and love this country. And they took the extra risk to protect the most powerful, the most powerful individuals in the country.
So, you know, we need to appreciate that every day and continue to give them the respect that they deserve. The investigations are still ongoing. We're making sure that we do due diligence.
And then also recognizing that President Trump has put a new director in place, Sean Curran, who was his lead detail that brings an agent's perspective to it. You know, you put somebody in an administrative role that has actually been on the front line and done these jobs.
They bring better information to that job on what can we do to equip and to train these individuals to do better the next time. One of the things I'm focused on is communication. What we saw happen in Butler, Pennsylvania, was a breakdown of communication.
And that's something that we at Homeland Security can help direct. You know, I have FEMA. I have TSA, Secret Service. We have the Coast Guard. There can be a plan and a pattern for communication on how we interact with state and local law enforcement officials that can be a uniform process so that that consistency is there, that we don't have what happened in Pennsylvania happen again.
And don't forget, we had an assassination attempt in Florida as well.
There are people out there now that perpetuate violence against the president, but also against our law enforcement officers. It's increased 300% just during this administration because of the enforcement actions that were taken. So we need to make sure that we're giving them all the tools and equipment and training they need for every scenario they could encounter.
Right.
Yes, absolutely. We are digging into that and getting the information. It's been slower than we wanted because Joe Biden and his administration slowed us down. But we have a director now that's going to be giving us a lot more details and information of what he's able to uncover. And, you know, you have the Senate. that did a report, and the House that did a report as well.
It's got to be extremely discouraging to be one of your constituents. To see you fight for a terrorist like this and not fight for them is extremely alarming to me.
But first, I would be remiss if I did not address the disturbing actions that we saw last week. There were members of this very committee that took part in an action at Delaney Hall on May 9th that need to be addressed. I served as a member of Congress in this body for eight years, and I understand the importance of congressional oversight. What happened on May 9th was not oversight.
It was a political stunt that put the safety of our law enforcement officers, our agents, our staff, and our detainees at risk. Here are the facts. As a vehicle approached the security gate at Delaney Hall Detention Center, a mob of protesters, including three members of Congress, stormed the gate and they trespassed into the detention facility.
We have footage of those members of Congress slamming their bodies into our law enforcement officers, shoving them, screaming profanities in their faces, striking them with their fists, and otherwise assaulting law enforcement. The behavior was lawlessness, and it was beneath this body. Members of Congress should not break in to detention centers or federal facilities.
Had these members requested a tour, we certainly would have facilitated a tour.
Of course there is. Families can be deported together. Of course there is.

In the conversations that I've had this week with Canadian officials, they were hoping to avoid the tariffs and had a lot of conversations but not a lot of action. So this is the hope is that the fact that President Trump has said something and now has enforced consequences, we really are hoping for even better partnerships.
We need access to their criminal background system so that we know when someone crosses that northern border, who they are, why they're in our country, and who they may be partnering with. We also need them to work with us on identifying packages, technology investments. Canada has said they will do that. We just want to see them actually do it.
In the past, promises have been made by both Mexico and Canada that they didn't follow through on. Their naming of a fentanyl czar in Canada is important. That's great. Now let's see really what happens. President Trump's been strong, and I think that's why you've seen the data going our direction. But, boy, every day people in this country are dying of overdoses.
And I don't want any more families to have to deal with that tragedy if it can be avoided and we can have a stronger relationship.
There's two elements really that the Secret Service is tasked with and that is protective detail and then also investigations.
Yet we see investigators within the Secret Service out there investigating antiquities and other things that are off mission when they should be focused on making sure we're addressing national security events with the protocols that are necessary and protecting the individuals that they're charged with
