So...
we did stumble a little bit to be quite honest and actually Mead actually beat us in Belfield and in the Scorty in one of the league games and it was probably one of the lowest times in Wexford Hurling at the time and I'll never forget Liam Griffin at the time you know some nasty things were said and done to him you know on the sideline that day in Belfield and you know it sort of hurted him and it hurted us as well because we said we don't deserve this or he certainly didn't deserve us so he got stuck into things then yes we lost out to Offaly in 95 as I said in September
When he came back, this man had a job to do and he wanted to prove to a lot of people that this is my way or no way and we're going to sit down and do this together.
And that's exactly, when you look at the, if he still had the paperwork, it would be hard to believe what he had written down in terms of training, say in November, training in December, training in January, the plans of practice matches, the plans of everything was laid out properly for us.
And it was a guideline for us to say, OK, lads,
our life is on hold now for the next four or five months and see where it's going to get us.
And even through the National League that year, you could see progress, you could see teamwork, you could see the team playing well together as a unit.
The team was fighting more for one another.
So everything seems to be falling into place nicely.
So everyone around us started believing that there's a bit of progress going well here now and Wexford are making strides
And of course then when the championship kicked off then and we had, as I said, Niamh Fitzpatrick, the sports psychologist, came in to meet players just to make sure that their mindset was right, that they were up.
for the challenge and certainly, you know, you've got to wear your heart on the sleeve and that's what Wexford was renowned for, to wear your heart on your sleeve.
Of course, you have to have fire in your belly and you also have to have cumulus in your head when you're in a battle.
So, Liam Griffin brought all that to us and sort of brought a new style of hurling as well.
He cleaned up a lot of messing and a lot of bad hurling.
So, everything sort of fell into place and as you said, the first game against Kilkenny, we were victorious and after that, everything seems to be,
Going nicely for us.
Well, we were a little bit unlucky, I must say, in the early 90s.
We lost league finals to Kilkenny and Offaly.
We lost league finals to Cork in 93 to beat us after the third game.
