The prime minister's cabinet is split over whether Starmer should stay or go or set a timetable for his resignation.
This is after anti-establishment parties trounced the ruling Labour Party in local elections last week in an indication of what could happen in the next national election expected in three years.
Starmer has refused to resign, promises bold change to win over his, quote, doubters, but has been hemorrhaging support.
If his party does force him out, it's unclear who would succeed him and when.
One of the contenders, Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, would have to win a seat in Parliament first to be eligible.

The British Beer and Pub Association says an average of two pubs closed per day in the first three months of this year.
That's about 2,400 jobs lost.
The association blames rising rents and taxes.
