It falls to me and others to say, take care, be sensible with precautions, and schools are going to have to decide, and they are deciding, most of them finishing a little bit early.

And as a result, we've pulled the pin on the disposal provisions that we proposed, but we're going to work on the existing ones with the teams like Forest and Bird and ENGOs and EWE and others.

And I've met with them face to face and in person a couple of times now.
And we'll work through where we can improve things.
I think it could have.
been a bit clearer in the communications, but hey, that's life and we've got to get on and keep moving forward because there's a lot of good things in this amendment bill, Mike, and we need to move forward and improve it and work on it through the select committee process.
But importantly for this issue, we heard, we listened, and we acted.
And that's what I call political leadership.
We heard and listened to the genuine concerns of New Zealanders and recognised that actually
we need to ensure that we've got clarity in the wording, but also that there is support for an enduring outcome.
What we don't want to do is move through a process and get to the other side.
And lo and behold, if there is a new government, it's thrown out in the first instance.
And again, the intentions and the words and the interpretations that have been given haven't all matched up together.
