And she writes, I recently listened to the podcast with Dr. Mo Enyat, which was so interesting.
I've been looking into supplements and as a 66-year-old celiac, I wondered which were best.
And should I have a blood test before deciding?
Many thanks and kind regards, Jules.
Thank you very much, Jules, for your question.
Yeah, that was a great episode, wasn't it?
I'll pop a link in the show notes.
If you haven't heard me talk to Dr. E as he's known, do take a listen.
He is a leading light in functional medicine.
He runs a great clinic called Human.
And he does lots and lots of testing and has some very interesting things to say about it.
So let's talk firstly, Jules, about the best supplements for someone with celiac disease and how important testing can be perhaps before starting them.
So celiac disease is affecting the small intestine and that's where many nutrients are absorbed.
So you're going to be following a strict gluten free diet and you can be at risk of certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies depending on what you are restricting in your diet.
So I think for someone in their 60s, there are a few nutrients particularly important to keep an eye on.
Now, these can include things like vitamin B12.
That's really important for our red blood cell production and iron, which is very good for energy, as well as vitamin D and calcium, really important for bone strength.
And then you've got magnesium, again, lovely magnesium and zinc, really helpful for muscle health and general metabolic processes.
Omega-3s, of course, really good from fish oil for brain and heart health, increasingly important for
as we age.
