Whereas berberine is focusing more on metabolic regulation and glucose control.
So both of these things...
are influencing cellular energy and those pathways, but they have different mechanisms.
And if you're interested in healthy aging or metabolic health or increasing your energy levels, then they are working complementary to each other.
However, I would say that berberine is biologically active and it can influence blood sugar levels.
So if you're taking medication for diabetes or for blood pressure, do speak to your doctor before taking it.
And in fact, you should, of course, if you are on any other kind of medication.
So can other supplements do similar things?
Yes, there are quite a few other supplements actually that support similar pathways in the body.
So, for example, resveratrol, that's a polyphenol, and that can help activate that same sirtuin pathway that I talked about linked to NAD+.
Then you've got quercetin, that's another plant flavonoid, and that also supports antioxidant pathways and can help with inflammation and cellular health.
Then you've got alpha lipoic acid.
That's very helpful in some cases with glucose metabolism.
And you've got magnesium.
Yeah, good old humble magnesium.
Not often mentioned actually in longevity discussions, but it plays a role in hundreds of enzymatic reactions, including those that are involved in energy metabolism.
So yeah, don't forget the mighty magnesium.
So Lily, in answer to your question, NAD Plus and berberine, they are both super interesting supplements to support cellular energy, but they work in slightly different pathways.
Many people use them together, but of course, it's always sensible to check with a healthcare professional if you are taking medication or if you have any underlying health conditions.
We're coming to Jules' message next.
