Jim O'Fixit was incredibly popular, and the show went on to become a staple of British pop culture for almost 20 years.
But as Savile was often fond of doing, he left clues concerning his true intent and motivation.
In the title sequence of Jim Will Fix It, Savile led a train of children in the style of the Pied Piper.
This, of course, was a reference to the old fable involving a rat catcher who lured children away from their village and their parents with his magical flute.
And those children, of course, were never seen again.
