I hung up and sat in my car for a long time, staring at nothing.

I had never heard it before.

Not once in all the time I'd known him.
It felt like a very small thing, that missing piece of information.
And then I thought of the hut wall.

And I thought of the voice in the wash, sounding like him, saying my name.
