The Murders in Our Back Yard | Podcast Episode 168

And also, she was, you know, I don't think it made it into the video, but, like, she didn't go off trail. Like, Carl was very clear about that. Oh, no, that wasn't the video. It was? Okay, yeah. Carl was very clear that she did not go off trail. She was terrified of going off. She loved hiking, was terrified of getting lost in the woods.

So if she went off trail, there must have been a damn good reason for it. I don't know. The whole thing seems fishy. The most likely outcome to me in that case, considering everything, is foul play. And unfortunately, if it was, it was the perfect crime. Because even if you suspect Jim, there's no proving he did anything.

Because it's so remote out there in western Montana. This is the Idaho border. There is... There's just miles upon miles upon miles of wilderness. my guess is one day somebody will find that revolver.

That's, that's the most likely outcome. I think if somebody finds the revolver and that leads to the case being explained, that makes sense. Um, As for the Tom Young and Keith Reinhardt one, I will say one thing I did not, a picture I did not see until after we'd already shot the video, showed where the revolver actually was found.

It was much closer to the body than the newspaper articles made it sound. At the same time, I cannot for the life of me understand why there's no information on what was in it. Because if he shot in the cylinders of the revolver? Yeah, if he shot himself in the dog, there should have been four loaded rounds and two empty ones. In the cylinder. Because revolvers don't expel the casing.

If I'm a hitman, I don't know if I leave those behind. I'm trying to make it look like a suicide. Yeah, for sure.

But I mean, somebody mentioned how, oh, well, it's a green tarp. Maybe he was using it for tent camping. Sure. Why did you set up a campsite if you knew you were going to shoot yourself? You know, I. I could see it. PTSD is a thing based on his age. I'm guessing he fought in Vietnam because he was a Green Beret.

So that's really the first war where you see Green Berets being heavily involved. I think they started in the 60s.

I think they were basically created because of the Korean War. Yeah. So I could see it being a PTSD issue. I have a hard time believing he'd take his dog. I know some people pointed out that it has happened. I just... I struggle to see that unless the dog was sick. And that is one thing. If he had PTSD and the dog got diagnosed with cancer, now it all makes sense.
