I wish him well.
But yeah, that was one of my first cases that I worked.
And then I went to protection after that and then got into polygraph.
So my career arc got away from counterfeit for sure.
You know, when I first came on, I was working a case down in Springfield.
And it became a case because I was doing an advance for then-Governor Bush as he was running for president in 2000.
And I had what's typically a pretty low-level duty where you're the protective intelligence advance.
And what that means is you go out a few days early.
You kind of look around.
You try to see if there's been any threats.
And on game day, you're there to handle any protests, things like that.
And so it's usually a pretty good gig.
Well, of course, Murphy's Law, the day before the visit, it was one of these things where he was coming in on a train to Springfield, and we get a call into the Republican National Headquarters.
This guy says, hey, I'm a sniper.
I'm going to take out the president if he comes here, blah, blah, blah.
oh my gosh you know all the alarms bell whistles go off because this was going to be kind of a a site that was was open you know so it's gonna be a problem i mean you're talking the difference between a certain level of protective umbrella versus having to really really expand things
So it was one of those things where we went to the payphone, and I was with this amazing agent named Bill, and he was this older agent and was kind of like a Colombo-type individual.
He'd done it all, former ATF agent.
And we go out to this payphone, and this payphone is in the strip mall.
Nothing's open.
