According to him, it lived or maybe wandered around these parts.
It could copy people, but never quite right.
From far away, it looked human, but up close, the details didn't add up.
Faces stretched too long, limbs bent at strange angles.
The way it moved...
Sometimes too stiff.
Sometimes too fluid.
Always slightly off, like it was trying to remember how to walk.
We cracked jokes at first.
Called its slender man's weird cousin and made creepy noises like 12-year-olds at sleepover.
But Mikey didn't laugh.
He poked at the fire with a stick and said real quiet.
You're not supposed to talk about it out loud.
That's what he said.
You say its name, it knows you.
The laughter died out after that.
We sat in silence, watching the fire burn down, until one by one we slipped into our tents.
Nobody said goodnight.
Just rustling nylon, muffled zippers, and stillness.
Sleep didn't come easy.
