According to early election results announced by Uganda's Elections Commission today, President Yoweri Museveni had obtained just over 76% of the votes counted, based on tallies from nearly half of the country's polling stations.
Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, is seeking a seventh term in office.
His main challenger, former musician Chagulani Sentamu, popularly known as Bobby Wine, had garnered just over 19% of the votes tallied.
Meanwhile, there were reports of deadly violence southwest of the capital following the elections yesterday.
Police say that a number of people were killed and others injured following an attack on a police station in the town of Butambala.

Somalia has condemned Israel's move, claiming that Somaliland is an inseparable part of Somalia.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a tour of several African countries, said today that China supports Somalia in safeguarding its sovereignty.
Yi added that Beijing opposed what he claimed as Somaliland's collusion with Taiwan authorities to seek independence.
Authorities in Taiwan, a self-governed democracy of about 24 million people that is claimed by China, are reported to have welcomed Israel's recognition of Somaliland.
