Chapter 1: What recent legal ruling affects immigration enforcement in Minnesota?

0.031 - 20.469 Ryland Barton

Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Ryland Barton. A judge has ruled federal officers in President Trump's immigration crackdown in Minnesota can't detain or tear gas peaceful protesters who aren't obstructing authorities. The ruling bans agents from detaining people in vehicles when there is no reasonable suspicion they're interfering with officers.

It also states that following agents, quote, at an appropriate distance does not by itself create reasonable suspicion to justify a vehicle stop. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is launching a criminal investigation into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frye. The Democratic leaders have criticized the immigration enforcement action.

Chapter 2: How is President Trump involved in the case of Puerto Rico's former governor?

61.235 - 79.54 Deepa Shivaram

The Department of Justice accused her of accepting a $300,000 bribe to finance her re-election campaign, which she ultimately lost. She claims the charges were politically motivated. The White House claims the case against Vasquez is, quote, political prosecution. The then governor of Puerto Rico endorsed Trump for president in 2020.

In his time in the White House, Trump has notably pardoned several political allies, including former elected officials and his own staff. Deepa Shivaram, NPR News, the White House.

A bipartisan congressional delegation is wrapping up its trip to Copenhagen to reassure longstanding allies as President Trump calls to acquire Greenland. As NPR's Barbara Sprunt reports, the group met with Danish Prime Minister Meta Fredriksson and her Greenlandic counterpart Jens Fredrik Nielsen.

The delegation is mostly Democrats, joined by GOP Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Tom Tillis of North Carolina. President Trump first mentioned acquiring Greenland during his first term, but has amped up that rhetoric, promising to take control of the island one way or the other.

Chapter 3: What is the significance of the bipartisan congressional delegation's trip to Copenhagen?

123.846 - 125.387 Barbara Sprunt

Murkowski has pushed back.

Greenland needs to be viewed as our ally, not as an asset. And I think that's what you're hearing with this delegation.

She's part of a bipartisan group that introduced a bill affirming the U.S. government's respect for the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark, including Greenland. Barbara Sprunt and PR News, Copenhagen.

The Supreme Court will consider the constitutionality of broad search warrants that collect the location history of cell phone users to find people near crime scenes. The case involves what's known as a geofence warrant that was served on Google in a police hunt for a bank robber in suburban Richmond, Virginia.

The warrants seek location data on every person within a specific location over a certain period of time. Stocks edged a bit lower on Wall Street today.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the Supreme Court's consideration of geofence warrants?

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both slipped a fraction. The Dow fell a tenth of a percent. This is NPR. A plan to slash how long it takes the FDA to review drugs is raising alarms. FDA staffers and outside experts worry the plan runs afoul of legal, ethical, and scientific standards used to review new medicines.

The new program awards vouchers to drugs favored by President Trump's administration, promising reviews in as little as one month instead of six to ten months. According to early election results announced by Uganda's Elections Commission today, President Yoweri Museveni had obtained just over 76% of the votes counted, based on tallies from nearly half of the country's polling stations. It's a real-life heated rivalry. Two pro hockey stars who are engaged to be married will compete on opposing teams in the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. Rania Savolainen has already taken home two bronze medals for Finland, while Anna Shelbin will be making her Olympic debut for Sweden.
