just rose to the occasion, you've got an absolute swell of relief that this guy can lead us, this guy can look after us, can work it through.

And he jumped straight onto the job.

He said, we've got to work on the basis that we're going to be in this raft for a while.

Because I said to the captain, he was cowed in the corner, if you can put a corner on a circular raft.

He was just on his own with his head down.

I said, did you get a Mayday off?

He said, no.

I said, did you get the emergency radio?

No.

It was too dangerous.

The hard core fact is nobody knew where we were.

Nobody knew that we'd sunk.

So our expectations at first, before we knew that information, was 24 hours, they'll know that we haven't arrived, somebody will go looking for us.

That's exactly... Ken says we should be right.

They can't communicate with us because we haven't got a radio and we've got no communications with them.

So we are going to have to put a watchkeeping system on board.

That means every one of us have got to stand up and look through the canopy and we know there are ships that are on schedules that come through these areas and we've got to make sure that we're close by to send a flare-off to get their attention.
