So you will definitely be hearing me give this spiel again because I think it's really, really interesting.
I'll be sitting in the outfield with a beer.
Oh, well, I mean, I might also be doing that from home, just like slightly off camera where Jamie can't see it.
But we'll get back to that one.
Listen, batting average of balls in play for people who don't know what it is, it's batting average minus strikeouts.
minus home runs, right?
So it's balls that are hit in the field of play where the fielders could theoretically have a chance to make the play.
And it's very fluky.
It's an up and down thing.
Like you said, a lot of times you can look at it in terms of luck.
Like I remember earlier,
matt mcclain of the reds was tearing up arizona and everybody's like yeah he's gonna have a great season and i looked at his his metrics and it's like yeah he's a bad bit of like 550 which is insane like the league average is 295 it is impossible for him to keep that up balls will find gloves and that has happened he hasn't had a very good season so far and usually that's the way you look at it uh with like slight adjustments for is very fast and beats out base hits or crushes the ball like aaron judge and makes guys play a worse positioning or is a rocky and
But Brandon Marsh is interesting because if you look at the all-time leaderboard, it's Ty Cobb and Rod Carew in first and third and also Brandon Marsh.
And he has done this every single year of his career, right?
Every year.
This is not an up and down thing.
He's consistently been able to do that.
And when I looked into that, I'm like, well, that's not a fluke.
That can't be a fluke.
That has to be a skill in some way.
