You know, he just loved going to bowl games.
He was obsessed with, you know, any sporting event and the pageantry of it all.
So he took her to a Shamrock Rover soccer game and stood in the normal supporter section, the standing room only section.
And they had the time of their lives to the point where he came back and was convinced that
So he fell in the same year he fell in love with Norman Noble, the city of Kansas City.
He called Arrowhead Stadium his favorite place on planet Earth and the game of soccer to the point where he got involved with the NASL, owned the team in Dallas.
Then he brings the World Cup here in 94, tried to get Arrowhead Stadium as a site for that when it didn't work.
But as a part of that agreement, they had to start a league, right?
That's the only reason Kansas City got a team in MLS was because Lamar Hunt loved Arrowhead Stadium so much.
That league was going to fold five years later.
2001, they were on the phone.
I talked to Clark Hunt about this in the book.
They were on the phone and all the owners said, we're hemorrhaging money.
We want to fold the league.
Lamar Hunt's already been a part of one soccer enterprise that folded.
Now the other one's folding in front of his eyes.
And his answer was, what if I buy two more teams?
