Core 15 had one.
Everybody and their fucking brother had a goddamn piston upper back in like 2014, 2015.
But they all sucked.
Yeah.
Because running a piston through the direct impingement gas port in the upper receiver, it's just not thick enough.
Look at the gas piston on an AK.
The thing's like a fucking half-inch in diameter.
It's not that big, but you get my point.
She's a thick boy.
Look at it on an M14.
Look at it on pretty much anything with a goddamn piston.
None of them are the size of a direct impingement gas tube.
So that was the problem.
So they got away from that.
Well, until somebody comes up with something that doesn't infringe on HK's patent, there's no point.
It's just not worth it.
It's easier to just make a direct impingement.
It's not that big of a deal to...
you know and most people don't care and with buffer weights and you know you got a lot more buffer weights now than you used to and adjustable gas blocks there's new ones of those every fucking day and some people are thinking um i really like the rifle speed i was playing with the new faxon one uh that actually moves the gas tube back and forth that was super interesting that was super interesting i actually really like it yeah it's a really clever idea yeah
um so the problem is it's just the problem basically boils down to making that upper dimension bigger a lot of people aren't willing to do that because now you're talking proprietary and that makes the hk416 handguards proprietary and their barrel nut and their bolt are proprietary if i remember correctly and and all that's patented it's just not worth it for most companies if that patent
