I was just going to yell at you, and then I remembered that every time Jeremy numbers his lists in gunfights, you just read the whole thing. And then I decided not to yell at you because I just realized that's the kind of penis head that you are.
For the fight with our minds on the target We're aiming for the mic, welcome to the double tap Where we deliver the facts that you're in question Stalking time in this street Alright, Double Tap, episode 451. Welcome to the show. We've got your usual crew here. We've got Nick Lynch from Bus Built Systems checking in. Jeremy Pazderic from River's Edge Tactical, Valley City, Ohio.
You can find them both online, but also if you're a good enough stalker. My name is Sean Herron. Welcome to the show. Glad to have you guys here. Glad to be here. This is the best, the biggest, the boldest, and the most profanity-laced...
gun q a podcast that ever existed it is double tap hi how's it going oh you know not dead yet oh good not dead yet uh are you trying to be uh you know i'm i wouldn't say that i'm actively trying
I'm just open to the possibilities as life brings them to me, you know?
Yeah. Yeah. You're not actively trying, but you're also not really actively trying to prevent.
Yeah.

Chapter 2: How do piston-driven rifles compare to direct impingement systems?
Anyway, that sounds so lame and white that I didn't really think that through.
Sean, are you looking forward to your grandkids coming to visit you in the nursing home?
Yeah, I think so. I think so.
In like another three, four years? They can't act a fool at the nursing home.
Yeah. I grew up in a nursing home.
Yeah, that is true. Yeah. That is true. You might die in one, too.
Very likely. No, I know when I'm going to die, and it's not here. It's not in a nursing home. Where's it going to be? I was born in a nursing home. I wasn't born in one. My parents owned one when I was little, and I grew up in the halls of that place.
No, it's too late. The song's already been written.
Can you imagine? Can you just imagine the fucking...

Chapter 3: What are the latest developments in gun industry news?
Do you see it, Jeremy? Look.
Look at it. This is weird. I don't like this.
Why? That optic is pretty sweet.
It is. I don't like your side camera.
Why?
I don't know. I don't like it.
What don't you like about it?
I don't like it. There's two of you from two different angles, and I don't like it.
Your face is visible?

Chapter 4: What features does the new Sig Sauer P365 Fuse Comp offer?
Mm-hmm.
Let's see. Croak over on X says, okay, we have the coupon code, but do we have the zip code? And do you pay extra for the little red flag on the side so the poster worker knows there's something to pick up? No. You can 3D print a model. You know what? I'm going to do that tomorrow, actually.
That's actually a new battery cap with a flag. Yeah.
I'm going to do that tomorrow.
Is there like a thread-on cap on the side?
Yes, there is.
Oh, fucking 3D print a fucking cap with a flag.
Yeah, like right there, the battery. Oh, Nick, are you on that page still? What kind of batteries does this take?
Let's see. Let me go back. I'm in the cart real quick. Oh, man, the hiccups did not get better.

Chapter 5: What are the unique aspects of the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 Sport?
Totally get it. But yeah, GideonOptics.com, Mediator XL. Go check that out. I think you'll really like it. I really like it. Unless you want a little tiny red dot like a bitch, and then you may not like it. I really like it.
And that looks like they have a picture on the page of a really badass Matt 9 that takes MP5 mags and it's got gray and black camo. Very sweet. Is that yours? No, mine is just straight gray. Well, gray and black, but not camo.
I was about to be like, nice, you made it.
I do have it on my MP5 clone, though, and it is excellent for that. It is a large, bulky, heavy optic. But when you look through the window and you see how giant it is and how you can see everything, it's pretty awesome. And I think that's a great use for it.
Yeah, I do, too. I was going to put it on mine, but I decided not to just because I already have. Well, I've got mine all set up for night vision.
Oh, yeah, that's fair.
And I have, uh, I have my red dot mounted on top of my laser. So it would just be, it would be a lot. Honestly, I wasn't, I wasn't willing to go through all that work because I'm lazy.
There is something to be said for that, you know?
Yeah. So, uh, let's see, just looking through the chat to see if I missed anything. No, I don't think so. All right. So anyway, Gideon optics.com coupon code WLS is life saves you money.

Chapter 6: Why is the Barrett MRAD Covert considered a premium rifle?
This is the best analogy that I can think of. So the can has like 15,000 hit points and each shot does one damage, right? And that's on a ambient temperature suppressor. But then every shot where the suppressor is over 500 degrees does two points of damage. Every shot where the can is over 800 degrees does, you know, five points of damage.
And every shot where the can is over a thousand degrees is doing 25 points of damage. So you can severely deplete that, that, that health bar, so to speak and, the hotter the suppressor gets because the hotter it gets, the softer the metal is, and the more damage per shot you're doing.
So if you do mag dumps to the 5.56 or 3.08, even though it's rated for that and full auto, the further you get it up to that upper limit that they say, the more damage you're doing per shot to the baffles because now you're putting, quote, you know, you're hitting the baffles with the gas and the fire and the pressure of the rounds being fired on a much hotter barrel or a much hotter suppressor, which is now a softer material because it is...
um because it's hotter so like if you just one round ambient temperature one round you probably get close to you know 15 maybe 20 000 rounds through that thing before it was really needed to be replaced or rebaffled or anything like that but the hotter you get it the more you abuse it and then the more you rounds put you put through it while it's you know extremely hot is you get less rounds per
Does that make sense?
Yeah, 100%. So now I'm thinking, okay, so now we put a little heat sensor that has Bluetooth connectivity inside of a suppressor wrap, and you can literally track how hot it gets and estimate.
You motherfuckers in the comments can make fun of me all you goddamn want, but everybody fucking understood that analogy.
Matt L says, Jeremy over here talking like he's playing Pokemon on a Game Boy.
No, I was too old for that. It would have been more like a popular Game Boy game.

Chapter 7: What makes the Pedersoli Kodiak Survivalist stand out?
Probably has a lot to do with the previously stated reason as well as running suppressors being common SOP for many, which brings up my question. Will we ever see more piston systems than DI? Do you think there will be a point where that happens? Is there much of a, that much of an advantage for that to be a likely scenario? Uh, thank you so much for, or thank you for your time. Dusky some notes.
Uh, did you, did you notice we went back in time, uh, with like back like 2014, uh, there was lots of piston systems out there and now there's like two. on AR 15 specifically. Yeah. Um, like MCX doesn't count. And a lot of the, you know, non AR stuff, but like, you're talking about like quote unquote AR 15, like the, uh, the fucking HK four 16, uh, who LMT has one. Uh, what is that?
jackal uh jackal is that that's not really ar-15 though that's a completely different like takes an ar-15 mag it doesn't lower trigger fire control group but a br brm 180 on an ar lower than ar mag isn't an ar-15 i mean it's driven but it's not an ar-15 neither is an mcx fair
So I think there are very distinct advantages to piston driven guns. However, I also think it's really interesting that none of them have been able to dethrone the AR and the direct impingement. We don't really see direct impingement and other systems. Pretty much everything else is piston driven.
Like, yes, there are other direct impingement designs and you can even be a like super nerd and argue that the AR 15 is actually a piston driven gun. Um, But all that bullshit aside, the AR-15 is like the only really commercially successful and mainstream direct impingement platform. And it's also the only one that nobody seems to be able to replace.
So they used to have a lot of piston systems, but they all sucked. And the reason they sucked is what they were doing is they were using a piston that went through the hole that the gas tube goes through. But the problem is that's not big enough for a piston, and they all bent eventually. They would all break. They tried long stroke. They tried short stroke. They tried two pieces.
They tried fucking springs in the middle. They tried recoil dampening systems here and there. But they all fucking broke. Until HK came out with the 416 and they actually made the dimensions of the upper bigger and put a bigger fucking piston through there. That's why that one actually works. And LMT copied that. I think there's a couple other companies out there that have gone that route.
But the problem is like the HK 416 piston system, it's got trademarked, patented. So you're not going to get somebody that you can't, whereas the AR-15 direct to Pigeon sends it. there's no fucking patent left on that motherfucker. That shit's been over for goddamn years. It's why everybody and their brother can make them. Um, it's why everybody and their brother makes Glock gen three clone too.
Um, the, the patents over with, it's just no more. Um, and which is why Glock keeps having new generations. That that's, that's a patent thing. Disney does the same thing. That's why the look of Mickey mouse changes like every 20 years. So they can keep the patent on that character. Um, Because it's a different stylize of Mickey.

Chapter 8: How can listeners submit their questions for the show?
Right. But the problem is running a piston system like the old SR556, the Core 15s. God, everybody. Ruger had one. Core 15 had one. Everybody and their fucking brother had a goddamn piston upper back in like 2014, 2015. But they all sucked. Yeah. Because running a piston through the direct impingement gas port in the upper receiver, it's just not thick enough. Look at the gas piston on an AK.
The thing's like a fucking half-inch in diameter. It's not that big, but you get my point. She's a thick boy. Look at it on an M14. Look at it on pretty much anything with a goddamn piston. None of them are the size of a direct impingement gas tube.
Yeah.
So that was the problem. So they got away from that. Well, until somebody comes up with something that doesn't infringe on HK's patent, there's no point. It's just not worth it. It's easier to just make a direct impingement. It's not that big of a deal to...
you know and most people don't care and with buffer weights and you know you got a lot more buffer weights now than you used to and adjustable gas blocks there's new ones of those every fucking day and some people are thinking um i really like the rifle speed i was playing with the new faxon one uh that actually moves the gas tube back and forth that was super interesting that was super interesting i actually really like it yeah it's a really clever idea yeah
um so the problem is it's just the problem basically boils down to making that upper dimension bigger a lot of people aren't willing to do that because now you're talking proprietary and that makes the hk416 handguards proprietary and their barrel nut and their bolt are proprietary if i remember correctly and and all that's patented it's just not worth it for most companies if that patent
It's still valid. How did Brownells do its 416 copy?
It had to have been licensed or something, I assume.
I don't know. That is a weird question.
