They didn't drive off.
They didn't do anything.
I just sat and looked and eventually they went away.
The following morning I went to work, I told one close friend who convinced me to go to the GardaΓ, which I did.
I rang Eglinton GardaΓ station, as it was back then, and the Gardas came up when I finished work.
I remember very little about the interview, apart from them giving out to me for not getting the number plate and asking me what was I doing driving on my own at that hour of the morning.
So I just said, yeah, sorry, thanks GardaΓ.
I was traumatised for years.
Never really told anyone for at least 20 years afterwards.
And then a number of years ago, I was in the company of another Mayo woman.
We were having a few glasses of wine and the subject of Mary Duffy came up.
And she mentioned how Shaw and Evans had tried to abduct her before Mary Duffy was killed.
And I was like, what did you say?
And then we exchanged stories and they were very similar.
Her attempted abduction took place in a town closer to Castle Bar, whereas mine was on the outskirts of Galway City.
And because I'm originally from Mayo, any time I drive down the road where Mary Duffy was taken from, I always, always think of Mary.
I just feel so lucky.
So, so lucky.
And I think it must be so difficult for Elizabeth's two sisters to speak up now.
But I admire them so much for doing it
