They become true.
Because now I'm not thinking about the thing I was actually working on.
I'm thinking about my limits.
And I'm conforming to those limits.
So that's where we have to be very, very careful.
Not that there's anything wrong with these diagnoses, obviously.
ADHD is real.
It's something that we have to manage.
We have to find ways to overcome, which is what Indistractable is all about.
But having that as a map is very useful.
So if you have a diagnosis, if you have a label that says, okay, I have this thing that makes what I'm trying to do a little bit more difficult than for the average person, now it's a map.
That can lead me to
behavioral tactics that I can change, it can help me navigate my path to changing my behavior, wonderful, it's a map.
When it becomes an identity, that's when we get into trouble.
Because it's unnecessary, right?
We think it's a fact, but it's nothing more than a belief.
And so to constantly reinforce our limitations, we are putting ourselves in a cage of our own creation.
So having a diagnosis as a map to guide us, very helpful.
Having an identity around our limitation can be very harmful.
