So the UK has controlled the Chagos Islands since 1965, when the UK purchased the islands from Mauritius.

So it does feel a bit redundant to say, well, actually, I'll think you'll find you said that you were in favour of this.

I mean, I think that there is a really serious conversation to be had about how the kind of international community reshapes itself around a US presidency that has no interest in engaging directly with it and is in certain instances going to be a hostile actor in those kind of international conversations.
And
Organizations like the European Union, a country like ours needs to start having conversations about what this looks like.
We're just a year into this presidency.
There are still three more to go.
Maybe more.
