Fishing is a very tough industry.
But I think anyone who's ever grown up in and on the sea, you're of the sea.
So I don't think they ever viewed it as anything other than a way of life.
I think a lot of times when we talk about our jobs, that's your working life.
But I think if you're of the sea, you know, it comes into your language.
It comes into how you view things.
It comes into how you frame things.
And I, you know, even the simplicity of, there was a beautiful sentence that, you know, my father would always say is like, no storm can hit you on four sides.
You know, keep rotating, find your calm, tuck in and that storm will pass.
And then even the sentences like, you know, anything that comes from the side of the stern will take your boat.
But, you know, and if you can't avoid the storm, you steam into it because that's where you've got control.
It frames your sentences, your sayings.
It frames how you, I suppose, develop respect.
I think anyone who's on the water, like, you know, even sentences that when we were swimming around Ireland...
There were several times that I really found so many things very difficult.
But my father would ring every night and, you know, I would kind of say, well, this happened and that happened.
And I found that very difficult.
