Until a deal is done and until they announce he's going to be back for 2026, we can't rule out anything else.
Speaking of that, now Mike Tomlin is out, stepping down.
And he's a guy that if you want him, you would have to trade for him because he's still under contract.
And he didn't get fired.
He resigned.
How does this change, if anything, what this carousel looks like?
And when was the last time we had, or have we ever had a coaching carousel quite like this?
I don't think we've had one quite like this, especially when you throw in the presence of John Harbaugh, who has more leverage, as one owner told me over the weekend, than any coaching candidate has had in decades.
Everyone wants him, he's in a position where he can dictate terms and he can just wait
for someone to eventually make him an offer that he won't be able to refuse.
It reminds me in some ways of the Deshaun Watson trade from four years ago, where it was set up perfectly to have four teams competing for Watson, the Browns, Panthers, Falcons, Saints.
Watson initially said to the Browns, I'm not interested in playing for your team.
So they took a step back, they came up with a massive offer, and he took it, and of course it all worked out perfectly well for the Browns after that.
So Harbaugh is in a position where he really can drive this thing the way he wants.
The Giants are the team that many inside the league think he will land with, but you never know when one of these other teams
One of these other owners is going to say, I want Harbaugh, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get him.
So you throw that on top of nine openings, more than 25% of the league, nearly 30% of the league.
Think of it this way.
There's 32 teams.
Only 23 NFL teams currently have head coaches.
