It is something you have to continue to engage in.

And I think the quote is acknowledging that in many cases, marriage becomes the end of that engagement in the process of loving.

And it becomes something that involves a lot of entitlement.

And that's where it dies.

I feel like it's something, I think it is an optimistic thing to do in pessimistic times.
