so definitely as a uni student i'd be setting up your mygov website early on so you can track everything the um hex set isn't i think it's updated maybe quarterly um but it's good to keep an eye on it especially as you're studying um that you haven't mistakenly been charged for an extra unit very important um
And a good thing to note is it's only been sort of recently put in, but if you're moving overseas, so if you're going for a year to work in a pub in London, you actually need to declare to the ATO via the MyGov login that you're leaving the country for six.
So if it's more than six months, you've actually got to let them know.
And if you start earning over that.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's a good one.
I like it.
You might not be earning, if you're at a pub in London, you might not be earning over the minimum threshold to pay back your hex.
But if you do start earning over the minimum threshold, which you should check before you go on your trip, you actually will have to pay back
an appropriate amount in your tax return.
So you're saying that even if you didn't earn the money in Australia, like if you were working in a really good pub in London, for example, and you're getting $100,000, you're going to have to pay the appropriate amount in your tax return.
I think this was brought in recently because a lot of people were just skipping the country.
See you later, Australia.
Not paying their HECS debt back and I don't think the government had a way to enforce it but now they're actually bringing in rules about that.
That's interesting because while you're at it, you may as well talk to your accountant because if you do go overseas, you want to know what your tax residency is because if you're overseas for more than 183 days, you might want to just ask your accountant if there's something that you need to take notice of.
That's interesting.
I did not know that.
There you go.
You learned something new.
Yeah.
