industries and areas like hospitals and various other things, courts and that kind of thing, but ultimately we don't have a lot of power.
We do have some physical power, though, some actual power, and that is that these AI systems take a lot of energy to run.
So, for instance, one medium-sized AI data centre takes about the same amount of power as about 138,000 households a year.
Which is incredible.
And what we have in New Zealand is renewable energy.
I think about 75% of our energy is renewable.
So that's mostly from hydro.
We've also got wind turbines now and also solar.
But we have a good space and area to be able to maybe host some of these data centres.
which would help in paying for the infrastructure to build our renewable energy systems.
Is that some of the stuff that's happening in like Invercargill?
So there's already been some work done on this.
And I think that would be great because we'd earn some jobs out of it as well.
We'd get the infrastructure and so we wouldn't be getting into the middle of winter and having power cuts like we've done.
It would actually be quite a boost for us.
But you're also, back in my mind, you think, where does it end?
I mean, you're talking about systems eating each other and what have you, but where does it end?
And how much power will this thing ultimately use?
It's scary.
