I think Jason Light said there were like two scenarios.
And they run hundreds of them, right?
And they were like two scenarios where they saw Reuben Bain Jr.
falling to the Buccaneers.
They never thought he'd be there.
They're thrilled he was.
And everything we've seen from the young man since that, the second they made that pick, even him just walking out to the podium and not even looking at the camera that everyone was posing for, like everything he's done since, I think it solidified their belief that he was the right pick.
Yes, I made a statement and I knew it wouldn't be, but I've made a statement going in like I wouldn't be upset if their entire draft was spent on the defensive side of the football.
The reality is the last couple of seasons, the conversation around the Buccaneers has been, hey, wow, they'd be very tough to beat if they could
play a lick of defense but too often it's been a sieve defensively so they needed to focus this offseason on on bulking up that defense and while some bucks fans aren't thrilled before the draft because they didn't go trade for a max crosby they didn't land a trey hendrickson i actually think they've done several things on the defensive side of the football which will make them better i don't think they're going to be a top five maybe even not a top 10 defense but man if you could just be adequate the offensive weapons are there that you're going to be a tough team to beat if you're
just adequately defensively, and I think they've done enough where that should be the case.
Well, listen, they didn't want to use the franchise tag on him because they felt like he's earned the right to kind of do what he wants to do.
So I'm not surprised that the team allowed him to go into free agency and look around because they feel like he's earned that for what he's done.
He's been a model citizen, model player, just the kind of guy you want on your football team.
And they just kind of felt like they would have done him dirty if they'd have thrown the franchise tag on him.
Am I shocked he left?
I was in the room when he signed his last contract, and he said, yeah, we were never really leaving.
My wife wasn't going to let me leave.
And he just said, like, I'm going to be in Tampa Bay forever.
