So it's the speed is what it's about.
But if we took a more long-term view and grew things that were slower growing but were more biodiverse beneficial, that would be maybe a better way to go.
And also to look at continuous cover forestry.
So not this clear felling where one day you've got a squirrel up in its drain and the next day the whole thing is just demolished and it's acres and acres, hectares of
of wasteland.
You know, if they removed a certain amount in a continuous cover forest with a much more diverse range of species, that would be a better method going forward, rather than this sort of, let's just plant more of sickle spruce.
Something like 6% of the land mass of this country is pure sickle spruce.
That's the fact of the matter.
Can I just say, when they clear fell an area, because they take everything out of a big section, there's nowhere for them to go.
If they took out smaller pockets and left a continuous cover forest type of situation...
the animals could move into nearby trees.
But when they take everything out of a massive area, it's devastation for any animals that are nesting or living there.
It's the method that it's harvested is also an issue.
And, of course, where they site these plantations, if it's on sensitive land like bogs and that.
