The Maltese side was very relaxed.

The main thing for my Maltese grandmother was religion.

That was the only thing she was adamant that we were involved with.

She never forced her language on us, except I wanted to speak Maltese.

I was that kind of child.

I wanted to speak to her in her language.

Oh no, my grandmother never had favourites.

She wasn't that kind of person.

She was fair.

She loved all her family, every single person in her family, unconditionally.

But I was very dedicated to her.

She was your favourite.

She was my favourite.

I was attached to her.

And I was the kid that always bugged her with, Nan, tell me again about the air raid and running to the shelter when you just gave birth.

And I made her tell these stories over and over.

She'd actually go, oh, my God, I've told you that story so many times.

As a kid, you know, I didn't understand the emotional...

side of that, of those stories, the stories of her depression, the depression and growing up with nothing.

As a child growing up in Australia in the seventies, I just couldn't imagine it.
