It's a made-up story, but I was reading an author at the time, an American short story author called Raymond Carver, and he had β and that was an influence on the songs I was writing where you sort of β you tell a story but β
often his stories would finish just at the point where they're about, something was about to happen.
So that's, I wrote this song where the song ends at the point where something's about to happen.
He gets home.
He makes his way back home.
He's done his, you know, he's done his time.
He's cleaned himself up.
He's getting back home to his wife and children.
But you don't know what's going to happen.
Or the song ends with him
In a taxi on the way to the house.
It's a rehab place up near Lismore in the northern rivers for drug and alcohol addiction.
Yeah, we thought that was going to work, and that was a time when it was really important that your songs got played on the radio.
It's changed now because people get their music all different ways, but it was a radio.
