There's always going to be a certain element in it, but you just can't do it like you used to be able to do it.
And tackles used to take four or five seconds.
And I don't believe all these numbers about ball and play and all that sort of stuff because they are โ
They're false figures.
But it's making the game look aesthetically better.
Fatigue makes the game better.
All these people telling you fatigue's not good for the game, it makes the game better.
Because the one thing coaches cannot coach against is these players getting tired.
Now, once we settle down the whole part of โ and this is a bit I'm not happy about with it โ
the runs, you know, that subconscious bias that happens where a referee, oh, six again, oh, six again, and suddenly there's been four or five in a row, and they go on runs of tries and all the rest of it.
That's a problem.
But I think the referees are getting better at that, and if they can continue to get better at that, the game will benefit from it.
The game really will benefit from it.
The problem, which I think this NRL is so stubborn, in the past, whenever there was something made that was a positive change for the game, the coaches would resist it.
They take on the referees.
The referees would have to do what their job is.
And then the NRL would weaken and say to the referees, pull back.
Don't do that anymore.
The best one was when Todd Greenberg was โ and he had that โ he tried to crack down on the wrestle and the play of the ball 2016, I think it was.
And he came out and he said, I've told the referees to start penalising this.
