And that was his way of trying to safeguard the referees.
Well, for eight to 12 rounds, everyone just bagged the shit out of the referees, but they were just starting to make headway with it because the coaches were taking them on.
And then we'll get 17, 18 penalties a game.
The coaches were taking them on.
But after a while, some coaches started to say, you know what, refs aren't changing, so we're going to change, and we're going to be the team that gives away three penalties, and then they're going to give away 14, and we'll get benefit out of that.
But just as the NRL started to win the battle, Todd came out and said, I've told the referees to stop being pedantic.
And he surrendered the battle.
And this is where the NRL, I think here they're too stubborn, they won't do it.
But if they see it through, the coaches will begin to coach differently, knowing that this is the way the game is now being looked at.
And I think provided they stick to that original one where the original idea, which is only incidents that should be penalties.
I think at the start of the year, anything that was a bit slow was a six again and up they went.
But, yeah, I think the game's โ I like the fatigue in the game.
And I think it's good for the game.
